Emotional Effect and Expression
IntroductionEmotions are subjective and may deviate based on the experience. In the last experiment we found out that a lot of people were already assosiating darkness with sadness but we wanted to get more elaborated results about how a visual could affect viewers mood
Design’s Expression We started building our differential by focussing on perceivable qualities to get the most out of it. Inverse relationship between Individuali and Direct point towards a very solid point that people assosiate directness if they see a person/eyes in the visual. People are more connected with the message if they get this level of contact in the design.

We also found that people assosiate sadness with complexity. Emotions are subjective but we could say that when the visual has higher complexity then the viewer might percieve as sad
GoalAn effective design can elevate or compress our mood based on the elements and emotions it connects to. We already know that people assosiate sadness with darkness because people are afraid of darkness. We can study this more closely with affect grid and compare our theory with actual results. Furthermore, we can compare the results with “Semantic Differential” to figure out what the design is actually expressing to us instead of it’s affect
Design’s AffectFuthermore, we now have started exploring the affects of the design on viewers mood. We will then compare it with the mood changes after showing them the design. For now, we can see that everyones mood and feelings are scattered all over the place which is quite normal since they haven’t had the same experience to have aligned mood.
We can see that compared to the mood before showing the visual had direct impact on the viewers mood but results are highly subjective.

Some of the answers are not dramatically different like people who are sleepy or feeling stressed are more or less on the same page.
